My name is Melissa Tarver and I have lived in the Grayson County area since 2000. Fortunately, I was able to start my career at Texoma Community Center, while completing my master’s in social work from Texas A&M Commerce. In my internships I had the opportunity to work with juvenile probation and the boot camp through the juvenile justice department. I learned a great deal at TCC about mental health needs, but also strengths perspective and CBT. After leaving TCC I moved to long term care social work at skilled nursing facilities and then geriatric social work and continued in long term care as a LCSW and providing psychotherapy to long term care residents and skilled patients returning home after completing physical, occupational and speech therapy.  I am skilled in many different forms of therapy, such as CBT, DBT, anxiety/ mood management, problem solving, empowerment, behavioral therapy, insight oriented, person centered, crisis management and solution focused. Over the last year I have diversified my experience with children and adolescents ages 8-18. I have had success with the adolescents, younger adults and older adults in managing the many stressors in day to day living and stages in development throughout life and especially during time of high stress.
